Steph is one of our ambitious and high-achieving recruitment consultants based in our Raleigh office. Since joining Barrington James nearly two years ago, she has carved out a niche in clinical operations, consistently exceeding expectations and making a significant impact. We sat down with Steph to learn more about her journey, experiences, and advice for those looking to build a career in recruitment.

What did your career look like before joining Barrington James?

Before joining Barrington James, I worked as a recruiter specializing in contract finance and accounting roles.

What is your current role, and what market do you cover?

I am a 360 Recruitment Consultant, focusing on permanent clinical operations roles within North America.

How long have you been with Barrington James, and what made us stand out when you applied?

I’ve been with Barrington James for nearly two years. I chose this company over other offers because of the unmatched potential for success and earning opportunities. But beyond that, what truly stood out were the people—I immediately felt that this was a place where I could be myself and be fully supported. Since joining, I’ve experienced incredible success, achieving things I never imagined possible at my age. But I’ve also faced setbacks, and each time, my team has been there to lift me up, helping me learn and grow stronger.

What drives and motivates you?

My biggest motivators are my family and myself. It may sound simple, but nothing is more rewarding than seeing how proud my dad is every time I make a placement—even after all these years in recruitment. While financial success and independence are amazing, that feeling of making my loved ones proud is priceless. Additionally, I have big life goals and a lifestyle I want to maintain, and knowing that I have full control over my success is extremely motivating.

What do you think is key to a successful career in recruitment?

Tenacity and focus. Recruitment requires a relentless drive—you can’t be afraid to push boundaries or take risks. At the same time, staying focused and committed to your goals is just as crucial. Success doesn’t happen overnight, but with persistence and dedication, it’s absolutely achievable.

What has been your biggest achievement so far?

Earning the #4 spot on the global SPOTY board for permanent recruitment in 2021 was a huge milestone for me.

What are your goals moving forward?

My main goal is to maintain consistency in my success. I also want to step into more of a leadership role within our remote team and help contribute to its growth. I’m excited to see where we can take it in the next year!
